YardGuild vs Point of Rental
Point of Rental is the US incumbent — 40 years of heavy-equipment and party-rental depth, an enterprise feature set, and an enterprise sales process. We're built for 1-3 yard owner-operators who want the price on the page and a free trial without a discovery call.
Who Point of Rental is
US-built rental management software since 1983, headquartered in Fort Worth, owned by The Riverside Company since 2018. They sell three products: Essentials (their SaaS line), Elite (mid-market), and Expert (legacy Windows desktop for the largest operators). 5,000+ rental businesses use them. Pricing isn't on the site — every quote comes from a sales rep after a demo call.
When Point of Rental is the right pick
Established US rental operations with 5+ locations or 10+ counter staff. Heavy-equipment yards that need integrated route optimization, dispatch, and CRM workflows. Party/event companies running fleets of trucks with hardware-level integrations (Vantiv / Cayan / Worldpay). Anyone with a procurement team that prefers an annual contract over month-to-month.
When you'll probably prefer YardGuild
Solo operators or 1-3 yard owner-operators. Anyone unwilling to sit through a 45-minute discovery call before seeing a price. Anyone running on Mac without a Windows admin in the loop (Elite / Expert install path). Anyone who wants to be live in 30 days rather than 90 with onboarding consultants.
The real cost math
Headline pricing is misleading when the headline doesn't include what you actually need. Here's what a 3-yard operator with two staff actually pays.

Questions you might be asking
- Point of Rental is the established US choice. Why look at YardGuild?
- If you're a 5-location heavy-equipment operator running a fleet of trucks with dispatch and route optimization, you shouldn't — PoR has 40 years of depth there and we don't. The reason to look at us is if you're a 1-3 yard owner-operator and you're tired of price-on-request software, annual contracts, and 90-day onboarding consultants. We show our price, run a 30-day free trial with no card, and you're live the same week.
- What does Point of Rental actually cost?
- Nobody outside their sales team knows the headline price for sure — it's quoted per account. Industry chatter and review sites put Essentials (their SaaS line) at around $199 USD/month base for a single user and single location, with per-user and per-location add-ons quickly bringing a realistic 3-yard, 5-user operation to $500-1,000+/month, plus a $1,000-5,000 one-time implementation fee and an annual contract. Our Multi-yard at $229 USD is flat, month-to-month, no setup fee, with unlimited staff and up to 3 yards.
- We process renter card payments through PoR's Vantiv integration. How does that work with you?
- It doesn't — and that's the design. YardGuild doesn't process renter payments at all. You keep your existing till, EFTPOS, Square, card terminal, your own PayPal Business or Stripe — whatever you're already using. We log the bond on the contract with payment method, reference, ID sighted, and any photos. You get the operations records; the money flow stays in your existing processor relationship. If your reason for being on PoR is the bundled payment processing, that's a fair reason to stay.
- We've used Point of Rental for 12 years. The team knows it. What's the migration like?
- Honestly, if PoR works and your team knows it, don't switch. The reason most operators move is the cost curve — once you've added 3-4 users and a couple of locations, the monthly bill is a multiple of what you signed up for. If that's hitting you, export your asset list as CSV from PoR (their export tools are solid), import it here, run parallel for 30 days, finish open contracts in PoR, start new ones in YardGuild. Most operators cut over at a month-end.
- Heavy-equipment dispatch and route optimization — do you have those?
- No, not at PoR's depth. Our model is generic: contracts, asset state, due-back board, owner mobile check-in. We work for heavy-equipment yards in the same way we work for tool, party, and ski hire — but if your business runs on optimising 12 trucks delivering 80 daily drops with dynamic re-routing, PoR Elite is engineered for that and we're not.
- Is YardGuild Mac-friendly? PoR Expert is Windows desktop.
- Yes — we're browser-based. Any modern Mac, Windows, or Chromebook. The owner mobile experience is a PWA you install to your phone home screen — iOS or Android, no App Store review. Nothing to install at the counter beyond a browser.
Try it on your own yard for 30 days
No credit card. Import your assets via CSV, run a few contracts, see if the kiosk and the mobile check-in actually save the time we say they do.
